Overview
Giant squid (Dosidicus gigas), also known as Humboldt squid or jumbo flying squid, is a major export species for FoodCorp Chile. This powerful predator of the South Pacific supports important fisheries off Chile and is in strong demand across Asian markets for its firm, white flesh and versatile cut options.
FoodCorp captures giant squid through its own fleet and supplier network, processing at the Coronel plant into whole round, tubes, tentacles, wings, rings and fillets. Product is available both as fresh-chilled for regional markets and blast-frozen / IQF for export. Size grading runs from 0–2 kg up to 4 kg and above, matching the specifications buyers require for retail, foodservice and reprocessing.
With integrated capture and a state-of-the-art freezing facility, FoodCorp delivers giant squid with the quality and traceability that importers expect from a established Chilean processor. The species supports important export programmes to Japan, Korea, China and Southeast Asia, where demand for tubes, fillets and tentacle cuts remains strong year-round.
