Overview
Anchovy (Engraulis ringens), known locally as anchoveta, is a small, oily pelagic that forms the backbone of the Humboldt Current ecosystem and Chile's reduction fishery. FoodCorp captures anchovy from the South Pacific Ocean and processes it at Coronel for both direct food applications and conversion into fishmeal and fish oil.
Whole round anchovy is blast-frozen and packed in standard 20 kg net cartons for export to markets that use the species for curing, canning, bait and animal feed. The high oil content and protein level make anchovy the preferred raw material for premium fishmeal (66–72% protein) and refined fish oil at FoodCorp's steam-drying plants.
